NCLEJ Calls on Governor Hochul to Extend Transition Deadline for Private Equity Takeover of CDPAP
We are calling on Governor Kathy Hochul to immediately pause the rushed and disastrous private equity takeover of the Consumer Directed Personal Assistance Program (CDPAP). This critical program allows eligible Medicaid members to choose and hire their own personal caregivers. The private equity takeover of CDPAP will result in continued poor customer service, labor violations, and corner cutting at every turn for both homecare recipients and caregivers.
CDPAP consumers are already facing system crashes, a lack of adequate translation services, and unanswered calls, and a significant number of essential caregivers and recipients have not yet completed the transition to the new system. If more time is not given for this transition, essential workers could face mass job losses and our state’s most vulnerable residents could be left behind.
The Governor must engage stakeholders and work with the Legislature to craft a viable solution that will guarantee the preservation of healthcare and jobs for hundreds of thousands of New York families.
