NCLEJ Testifies Against Devastating Cuts to Workers’ Compensation in New York State
Staff Attorney Leah Lotto testified in opposition to proposed changes to New York’s Workers’ Compensation System that would dramatically cut benefits workers who are injured or made ill on the job, as well as limit their ability to see a doctor of their choice. The hearing was before the New York State Assembly Standing Committee on Labor. The proposals are particularly harmful for low-wage workers, who have not seen an increase in benefit amounts since 1992. NCLEJ opposes the proposed regulations and guidelines in their entirety and urges the Workers’ Compensation Board to revise the proposals to protect the dignity and value of New York’s workers.
