Cayuga County DSS ADA Training

NCLEJ has collaborated with legal services advocates to work with local district departments of social services throughout New York State, to develop an Americans with Disabilities Act compliance policy that will enhance protections for agency clients with disabilities, who need reasonable accommodations that will assist them in applying for and maintaining access to public benefits, such as food stamps and Medicaid.  In April 2019, we continued this ongoing project, by working collaboratively with the Cayuga County Department of Social Services and advocates from Legal Services of Central New York to develop an ADA policy providing guidance on how to help benefits clients with disabilities.  Once the policy was completed and adopted by the agency, NCLEJ and LSCNY advocates conducted a multi-day training for the staff of Cayuga DSS on the policy’s requirements and guidelines for working with applicants and recipients with disabilities.
