NCLEJ’s Statement on the Rescission of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals Program

NCLEJ is outraged and dismayed by Trump’s decision to rescind the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) immigration policy today. This very important program provided DREAMers, young people who were brought to this country as children, with work permits and deferrals from deportation. Under DACA, nearly 800,000 undocumented immigrants – students, graduates, and former military – came out of the shadows and contributed to their communities. Without DACA, 685,000 workers will likely lose their jobs and the nation’s gross domestic product will take a $460 billion hit over the next decade. Trump’s senseless suspension of the DACA program is yet another example of this administration’s blatant contempt for immigrants and communities of color. Please stand with us in opposing continuing attacks on our brothers and sisters.
