The National Center for Law and Economic Justice (NCLEJ) is pleased to announce the appointment of former Ambassador Lee Wolosky to its Board of Directors.

“Lee is a well-respected and recognized leader at the national level, and an excellent lawyer with a deep commitment to NCLEJ’s mission. We are delighted that he will use his vast experience and well-honed skills to benefit the Center and its work,” said NCLEJ Executive Director Marc Cohan.

Ambassador Lee Wolosky is a partner at Boies Schiller Flexner LLP. Until earlier this year, he served as President Obama’s Special Envoy for Guantanamo Closure. “For over 50 years, NCLEJ has been a major force in advancing economic justice across the U.S. I am delighted to be able to be a small part in advancing its mission,” Wolosky commented.

About the National Center for Law and Economic Justice

NCLEJ is one of the nation’s most prominent and respected social justice nonprofits fighting for economic justice, powered by the unwavering belief that low-income families in the United States must have the opportunity to succeed. NCLEJ advanced the cause of economic justice for low-income families, individuals, and communities across the country through a combination of ground-breaking litigation and policy advocacy in collaboration with a wide range of partners across the country, and, where possible, supports grassroots organizing. Because poverty impacts communities of color and disproportionately families headed by women, the Center applies this strategy to advance racial, immigrant, and gender justice concerns.

The Center has guaranteed access to benefits for hundreds of thousands of people—providing a baseline of economic security to help stabilize low-income families and individuals and holding agencies accountable for failures to comply with the law. NCLEJ has also protected low-wage worker from abusive labor practices, overturned hundreds of thousands of fraudulent debts imposed on low-income debtors, and advanced the rights of millions of low-income Americans with disabilities. NCLEJ has led successful teams of public interest counsel and private law firms to challenge FEMA’s neglect and unlawful actions in the wake of Hurricanes Rita and Katrina, providing help to tens of thousands of families. NCLEJ has worked nationally and in more than 22 states to achieve real results that better the lives of children and families and build ladders to success for future generations.
